Located in a rural community 45 minutes from metropolitan Atlanta, Villa Rica Elementary School, a Title I school with 73% of students receiving free or reduced lunch, is one of four public elementary schools in the Villa Rica Cluster of the Carroll County School System. Villa Rica Elementary School serves approximately 475 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade with 32 full-time, highly qualified teachers on staff. Other certified support staff are one counselor and one media specialist. Additional teachers are shared between schools in the Villa Rica Cluster. Principal, Charles T. Johnson, Jr., is in his 7th year at Villa Rica Elementary and works with one Assistant Principal, Mitch Springer, who is in his second year of service. Several classified positions also provide support, including paraprofessional, clerical, technical, health care, safety and food service. Custodial services are provided by an independent company.
In serving this community, Villa Rica Elementary has experienced numerous changes and challenges over the past years. To meet the goal of becoming a 21st century school, the use of technology has increased yearly with acquisition of interactive boards in all classrooms as well as class sets of tablets and Chromebooks. Another change that has presented a challenge is the implementation of the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS) and College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) with its renewed emphasis on literacy and its demands for increased rigor.
