Michael Mitchell Sr

Physical Education Specialist

I am a native of Hartwell, Georgia. Hartwell is a small town with a huge lake located in northeast Georgia. Growing up, I loved sports, and I wanted to be a professional athlete or a teacher. Decades later, I have a wonderful son, Jr, and I am living a dream as the PE teacher at VREI ABSOLUTELY LOVE BEING A TEACHER! If I was not a school teacher, I would volunteer at a school. Thus, I am blessed to get paid doing something I would gladly do for free.

In my spare time, you will find me playing the bass guitar (church), fishing, playing or watching sports, shopping, and of course, spending time with Jr. During football season, Jr and I are loud and proud CLEMSON TIGERS fans. However, I trade in my orange for North Carolina baby blue during basketball season. We are members of A Place of Refuge Church located in Carrollton, Ga.

I graduated from Hart County High School (Ayyyeee Dogs!!). After high school, I attended the University of West Georgia and earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and added Health & Physical Education. In 2010, I earned my Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from Walden University. In 2012, I earned my specialist degree in Teacher Leadership from Walden University. However, these degrees pale in comparison to the many lessons I learn from our wonderful faculty and students at Villa Rica Elementary School. The Best is yet to come.

I count it a blessing to say that I have only taught at Villa Rica Elementary School. I taught fifth grade science and social studies my first three years. Now, I am blessed to be the Physical Education (PE) Specialist. WeAreVR!!
